More than 100 people confirmed the nomination of Lumby’s Huguette Allen as the next federal Green Party candidate.
Speaking at the recent annual Green Garden Party [held at Hettlers' Pilgrims' Produce organic farm] in Armstrong, Allen said, “Forty years ago voters wanted medicare and they got it. By Richard Rolke – Vernon Morning St
Campaigning for the May 12 provincial election gets underway Tuesday, and while this process is generally predictable, expect some twists and turns this time around.
And the main reason for this is the re-entry of two high-profile individuals in Vernon-Monashee.
First off is Huguette Allen who took the Greens out of the wilderness during the last federal election and knocked the Liberal Party of Canada from its usual third-place standing.
Now Allen is casting her eyes towards Victoria and breathing some life into the B.C. wing of the Greens, occasionally associated with
granola-eaters and tree-huggers.
And if anyone can do it, it’s Allen, who has shown she is as politically astute as anyone and can bring together the volunteers and financial
donors required to go up against the mainstream parties.
Allen also brings a lot of life to a campaign as she thrives being in front of crowds, shaking hands and confronting other candidates and the
media.
The other situation that could shake things up is the re-emergence of Darrel Stinson, campaign manager for Dean Skoreyko, B.C. Conservative candidate.
