US military: oil output may dip causing massive shortages by 2015

Energy, Oil, War No Comments »

The US military has warned that surplus oil production capacity could disappear within two years and there could be serious shortages by 2015 with a significant economic and political impact.

The energy crisis outlined in a Joint Operating Environment report from the US Joint Forces Command, comes as the price of petrol in Britain reaches record levels and the cost of crude is predicted to soon top $100 a barrel.

Global WARming!

Climate & Carbon, Energy, Oil, War No Comments »

Contribution by Anne Morris.

We don’t hear much about the impact on the planet of war and the billions of dollars it consumes. It’s huge!

During the first 5 years of the US war in Iraq, at least 141 million metric tons of carbon dioxide were produced – the equivalent of putting 25 million more cars on the road in the US in one year. The US war in Iraq emits more CO2 annually than 139 of the world’s nations together. And these emissions are unreported because military emissions abroad are not included in the national greenhouse gas inventories submitted annually by industrialized nations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Tragedy struck the [U.S.] nation’s largest military base yesterday in Fort Hood, Texas when an Army Psychiatrist shot 43 people, killing 12 and wounding the rest. He was about to be deployed to Iraq.

But it’s not just troops. Studies attempting to measure happiness globally found that Americans rank surprisingly lower than expected. The United States as a whole consumes more antidepressants than any other country. Read the rest of this entry »

I mentioned the project that by 2020 they would have more than a thousand latest generation bombers and F-22 and F-35 fighter planes in their fleet of 2500 military aircraft. In twenty more years, every single one of their war planes will be robot-operated. Read the rest of this entry »

Ruth Zenger writes against Arms

Dear Mr. Mayes,

I was most upset to learn that there is a very large arms bazaar sponsored by the U.S. Embassy to be held at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa from September 30 to October 1st. This “U.S. Embassy Defense and Security Exhibition” would be the first weapons exposition on Ottawa City land since May 1989, when another expo called ‘ARMX’ was held in Lansdowne Park. There was a great public outcry against ARMX at that time and subsequently there was a decision by Ottawa City Council to bar the return of “ARMX or other such arms exhibitions” to municipal property.
